Private Car Services and Rental Cars in Cheyenne Wyoming
We are mostly known for our rental cars here at Winter Wagon because thats how we started out but we have noticed that alot of people don’t actually want to drive themselves especially when the weather gets bad. We provide private car services along with our rental car service which is a huge benefit for folks coming into the Denver Airport who need to get up north to Wyoming. We rent cars made for Colorado from the Denver Airport however can also offer private car services from the Denver Airport to other points in Colorado and Wyoming. So if you don’t want to rent a car from Denver Airport with us you can always use our private car service too.
It is a long drive from Denver to Cheyenne and even though it looks short on a map it can feel like forever when the wind is blowing and the traffic is bad on I-25. We have been doing this for a long time and we know that sometimes you just want to sit in the back seat and look out the window while someone else worries about the semi trucks and the icy patches on the road.
The Choice: Drive Yourself or Let Us Drive?
This is the biggest question our customers have. Do I get a rental car from the Denver Airport or do I book a driver? The good news is that at Winter Wagon we offer both so you aren’t stuck with just one option.
If you choose to rent a car from us you aren’t getting some generic sedan with bald tires. Our rental fleet is specifically made for Colorado and Wyoming roads. That means we put real snow tires on them, not just “all seasons” that slip around on the ice. Plus we can hook you up with all the gear you need like bike racks and roof boxes.
But if you choose our private car service you get the same quality vehicles just with a professional driver behind the wheel. It really comes down to whether you want the freedom to explore on your own or the luxury of relaxing while someone else does the work.
Why Our Rental Cars Are Different
If you decide that you do want to drive yourself we want to make sure you have the right tool for the job. Most rental companies at the airport will give you a car that belongs in Florida not in the Rockies.
At Winter Wagon we equip our rentals with:
- Snow Tires: This is non negotiable in the winter. Good rubber makes all the difference.
- Roof Boxes: Need extra space for luggage or gear? We have Thule boxes and other carriers ready to go.
- Bike Racks: If your visiting in the summer and want to hit the trails around Curt Gowdy State Park we can attach a bike rack so you dont have to jam your bike in the back seat.
- Ski Racks: Heading to the mountains? We got racks for your skis and boards too.
Why Choose a Private Car Service to Cheyenne
There are alot of reasons why you might want to hire us to drive you instead of renting a car and driving yourself. The first reason is definetly the stress factor because driving in a strange place can be stressful enough but when you add in the crazy weather we get around here it becomes a whole different animal. The road from Denver to Cheyenne is pretty straight forward since its mostly just Interstate 25 all the way north but that highway can be tricky.
When you book a private car service with Winter Wagon you are getting a driver who knows the road like the back of their hand and knows exactly where the bad spots are. We know when the wind is going to be bad near the border and we know how to handle the vehicle when the snow starts falling which happens quite a bit during the winter and even in the spring and fall too.
Another big reason is that you might want to get some work done while you travel. If you are driving a rental car you have to keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel but if your riding with us you can pull out your laptop or your phone and catch up on emails or just watch a movie. Its really nice to arrive in Cheyenne feeling refreshed and ready to go instead of feeling white knuckled and exhausted from fighting the traffic for two hours.
The Winter Wagon Difference
We arent like the big limo companies that show up in a black town car that does not handle the snow very well. We are Winter Wagon and our name says it all because we focus on vehicles that are made for this environment. We use cars and SUVs that have all wheel drive and proper tires because tires are the most important thing when it comes to staying safe on these roads.
Most private car services will just pick you up in whatever car they have available but we make sure the car is ready for the journey. Our drivers are friendly and they arent going to treat you like just another number they will treat you like a friend who needs a ride. We want you to feel comfortable and safe so you can ask us to stop for a coffee or a bathroom break whenever you need to.
Here is a quick look at why we are different than the other guys out there.
| Feature | Winter Wagon Service | Standard Limo Service | Generic Rental Car |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vehicle Type | AWD SUVs & Wagons | RWD Sedans or Limos | Basic Sedans |
| Tires | Winter/Snow Tires | All-Season Tires | All-Season Tires |
| Gear Storage | Roof Boxes & Racks | Trunk Only | Usually None |
| Flexibility | We stop when you want | Point A to Point B only | You drive |
| Weather Ready | Always prepared | Often cancel in snow | Good luck |
Traveling From Denver Airport to Cheyenne
Getting from the Denver International Airport to Cheyenne is one of our most popular routes because there really isnt a major airport in Cheyenne that has alot of commercial flights so most people fly into Denver. The drive takes about an hour and a half if the traffic is good and the weather is nice but it can take alot longer if things get messy.
When you land at DIA the last thing you want to do is stand in line at the rental car counter and wait for a car and then have to walk out to the garage. Unless of course you booked a rental with us because we try to make that process way smoother. But if you booked a private ride we will be there waiting for you and we will help you with your bags and get you into a warm car right away.
We track your flight so we know if your early or late and we adjust our schedule accordingly so you don’t have to worry about calling us if your plane is delayed. We know that travel days can be long and tiring so we try to make the last leg of your trip the easiest part.
The Route North
Once we leave the airport we head north on E-470 usually to bypass some of the city traffic and then we hook up with I-25. The drive takes you through some rolling hills and past some smaller towns like Mead and Berthoud and Loveland. Its actually a pretty scenic drive if you have time to look around but like I said before the wind can be brutal.
Wyoming is known for its wind and as soon as you get close to the border you will feel it pushing the car around. Our drivers are used to this and they know how to keep the car steady so you don’t feel like your on a roller coaster. There is also a big hill right before the border that can get really icy and lots of trucks get stuck there but we have the right tires to get up and over it without any issues.
We know that people coming to Wyoming often have alot of gear with them whether its ski gear or hunting gear or just alot of luggage for a long stay. Since we use SUVs and larger vehicles we have plenty of room for all your stuff. You dont have to worry about cramming everything into a tiny trunk like you would with a normal taxi or rideshare.
This is true for our rental cars too. If you are renting from us tell us what you are bringing. We can put a roof box on top for your extra duffel bags or a ski rack for your boards. We even have hitch mounted bike racks if you are bringing your mountain bike. Most rental places charge you an arm and a leg for that stuff or they just dont have it but we try to include it or make it easy because we know you need it.
If you have oversized items just let us know when you book and we will make sure we send the right vehicle for you. We want to make sure you have plenty of leg room and aren’t sitting with a suitcase on your lap for two hours.
Why Not Just Take a Bus?
There are buses that go from Denver to Cheyenne but they run on a set schedule and if you miss the bus you are stuck waiting for the next one which might not be for hours. Plus on a bus you are stuck with a bunch of other people and you can’t ask the driver to stop if you need to.
With our private car service you are on your own schedule. If your flight gets in late at night we will still be there. If you want to leave Cheyenne early in the morning to catch a flight in Denver we will be there. You are the boss and we work around your schedule not the other way around.
Also the buses usually drop you off at a station and then you have to find another ride to get to your hotel or house. We provide door to door service so we will drop you off right at the front door of wherever you are going. This is super helpful especially in the winter when its freezing cold and you dont want to be walking around outside with your luggage.
Visiting Cheyenne
Cheyenne is a great city with alot of history and there are some cool things to see while you are there. If you are in town for business usually you are going to the capital or one of the government buildings and we can drop you right off at the front steps. If you are there for fun maybe you are going to see the Cheyenne Frontier Days which is the big rodeo they have every summer.
Even though we are talking mostly about winter services we drive to Cheyenne all year round. In the summer it is a beautiful drive and the grass is green and the sky is blue. But in the winter it has a rugged beauty to it that is really special if you are safe and warm inside a nice car.
Some people think that because we are called Winter Wagon we only operate in the winter but that is not true we operate all year long. We just specialize in winter driving because thats when people need the most help and thats when driving is the most dangerous.
We talk alot about comfort and convenience but the most important thing for us is safety. We maintain our vehicles to the highest standards and we check them before every trip to make sure everything is working right. We check the tires and the fluids and the lights because we dont want any surprises out on the road.
This goes for our rental cars too. We dont send you out in a car with bad wipers or low tire pressure. We inspect every rental before you pick it up at the Denver Airport to make sure its ready for the mountains.
Our drivers are also vetted and trained to make sure they are safe drivers who follow the rules of the road. We dont speed and we dont take chances because your safety is worth more than saving five minutes on the drive. We want you to arrive in Cheyenne in one piece and happy with the service we provided.
How to Book Your Ride or Rental
Booking with us is really easy. You can just go to our website and fill out the form or you can give us a call and we can set it all up for you. We just need to know if you want a private driver or if you want to rent a car yourself.
If you are renting let us know what extras you need like:
- Snow tires (standard on most winter rentals)
- Roof box for extra storage
- Bike rack
- Child seats
We are transparent about our pricing so you wont get hit with any hidden fees or surprise charges when you get to your destination. We believe in being honest with our customers because we want you to come back and use us again the next time you are in town.
We also offer rides from Cheyenne back to Denver so if you need a round trip we can handle that too. Just let us know your schedule and we will be there to pick you up and take you back to the airport or wherever else you need to go in Colorado.
Since we offer both services rental cars and private cars we can give you an honest opinion on which one is better for you. If you like to be in control and you want to drive around Cheyenne and explore the area on your own then a rental car might be the better choice for you. We have great rental cars that are ready for the snow so you will be safe driving yourself.
However if you are just going to one place and staying there or if you really hate driving in traffic then the private car service is the way to go. It is a little more expensive than renting a car usually but it is worth it for the peace of mind and the convenience. You dont have to worry about parking or gas or insurance you just pay one price and we handle everything else.
Also consider the fatigue factor. If you have been flying all day the last thing you want to do is drive another two hours. It is dangerous to drive when you are tired especially on a highway like I-25 where people drive really fast. Letting us drive allows you to rest and relax so you are ready for whatever you have to do when you get to Cheyenne.
I want to talk a little bit more about what the drive is actually like because I think it helps to know what to expect. When you leave Denver you pass through the suburbs and there is alot of shopping centers and houses. Then things start to open up and you see more farms and fields.
As you get further north you can see the mountains off to the west and on a clear day it is really spectacular. You can see Longs Peak and the rest of the Front Range and it makes the drive go by faster when you have something nice to look at.
Once you cross into Wyoming the landscape changes a little bit and it gets a little more open and rugged. There are some wind farms with those giant turbines and they are cool to look at but they also remind you of how windy it gets up there.
We usually stop at the border if you want to take a picture at the Welcome to Wyoming sign because alot of people like to do that. Just ask your driver and they will be happy to pull over safely so you can get your photo.
We take alot of pride in our vehicles because they are the tools of our trade. We dont just buy the cheapest cars we can find we buy cars that we would want to drive ourselves. We like Subarus and heavy duty SUVs because they have the best traction and they are comfortable to ride in.
We keep them clean inside and out so you dont have to worry about sitting in a dirty car. We know that cleanliness is important especially these days so we make sure to wipe everything down between rides.
If you have a specific request for a vehicle type just let us know and we will do our best to accomodate you. Whether you need a rental with a roof box or a private ride with extra leg room we are flexible and willing to work with you to make sure you get what you need.
One of the best things about using a private car service is that you can change your plans if you need to. If your meeting in Cheyenne gets cancelled and you need to go to Fort Collins instead we can do that. If you decide you want to stop for dinner in Loveland on the way up we can do that too.
When you take a shuttle or a bus you are locked into their route and you cant change anything. With us you are in charge and we are there to serve you. This flexibility is really valuable for business travelers who’s plans change all the time and for families who might need to make unexpected stops.
We try to be as accomodating as possible because we know that travel is unpredictable. We are a small company and we can make decisions quickly without having to call a corporate office and get permission. If you need something just ask and we will try to make it happen.
So if you are planning a trip to Cheyenne Wyoming and you are flying into Denver give us a call at Winter Wagon. We would love to be your driver or get you set up with a rental car that can handle the wild west weather.
We know you have choices when it comes to transportation but we think we offer something special. We care about our customers and we care about providing a high quality service that you can rely on. So skip the stress of driving yourself in a bad car and let us help you. We look forward to seeing you soon and helping you with your travel needs.
Remember that winter driving is serious business and you shouldn’t take it lightly. Let the professionals at Winter Wagon take care of you so you can focus on the important things in your life. We are standing by and ready to hit the road whenever you are. Safe travels!
